Jakarta – As part of the International Women’s Day 2025 celebration, PT Bisa Ruang Nuswantara (BIRU) and IBCWE hosted a discussion on “Empowering Women in the Mining Sector”, addressing challenges and opportunities in increasing women’s participation in the industry.
IBCWE’s Executive Director, Wita Krisanti opened the discussion by highlighting data from National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), which shows that women make up only 8% of the 1.73 million workers in the mining sector. Additionally, a census of IDX200-listed companies revealed that 50% of energy sector companies have no women in leadership teams—despite women dominating university graduation rates, including in STEM fields.
The discussion featured three expert speakers from diverse backgrounds: Kanya Sjahrir, CEO of PT Bisa Ruang Nuswantara; Teti Aisyah, Human Resource Operations Manager at Thiess Indonesia; and Iriantoni Almuna, Programme Manager at UN Women Indonesia.
During the session, Kanya Sjahrir emphasized BIRU’s commitment to bridging the gap between vocational education and industry needs, focusing on relevant training and creating opportunities for women to enter the male-dominated mining and energy sectors.
